The Fallen Fence series examines boundaries that are in a state of flux. The works present forms inspired by the physicality and intent of a fence—a structure meant to delineate and contain space. Here, they break away from this linear archetype, expanding into unexpected shapes that redefine spatial boundaries while implying a sense of deterioration.
Crafted from original hand-woven panels on Mimi Jung’s looms, each piece uses multi-colored poly cord and paper to create an undulating surface, with interrupted, sagging, and fragmented gestures that evoke dilapidation. The forms engage in a dialogue with negative space, where gaps between disjointed sections hint that once-solid divisions suggest a prior state of wholeness.
The notion of a fallen boundary becomes a catalyst for reflection. When encountering this fractured barrier, do we see it as a potential pathway toward connection or as a lingering division? This ambiguity invites viewers to examine their internal landscapes—considering the layered intentions, assumptions, and sentiments that shape their approach to boundaries in personal relationships.
As part of your evolving body of work, Fallen Fence connects with themes explored in Shield and Live Edge, expanding the discourse on the shifting nature of boundaries—both physical and conceptual.
